Johnson String Catalog

If you’ve visited my blog recently you may have already caught a glimpse of the shots I took for Johnson String Instrument . I wanted to share how those images got used in their annual catalog for 2019-20.

The catalog was designed by Pat Nieshoff Design, and you can see the full catalog HERE.

As always, click to enlarge the images.

I Really Know What I'm Doing! {Boston Family Photographer}

The quote from the title of this entry is not coming from me, but rather Ellie, 7-and-a-half, who said during her family’s session “After five years of doing this, I really know what I'm doing!”

I have been photographing Ellie and her family for, you guessed it, five years now. I was recently reflecting on the fact that it has now been ten years since I moved back to Boston from West Palm Beach, Florida! I never would have imagined ten years ago that I would have a steady collection of wonderful people who trust me with capturing their annual family photos.

Here is a collection from my fall shoots this year. It’s been a super-busy season and the season isn’t quite over yet, but I wanted to share just the same.

Avery and William! {Boston Family Portrait Photographer}

These little snuggle bunnies have grown a lot in the past year. I was excited when their mom got in touch for a one year session. Photographing them (as is always the case with any human between the age of one and four), is like trying to keep cats in a wheel barrow.

I've actually never tried to put cats in a wheel barrow, but I imagine it's an interesting challenge, as is photographing humans between the ages of one and four. They were fun and squirrely and curious and busy in all the best ways.

Kristin and Co. {Boston Family Portrait Photographer}

Kristin, her husband Will and their four legged Cocoa met me at the wonderful Wright's Pond for a session. Unfortunately, they brought their really difficult and ugly kids Hanley and Davis (insert sarcasm font here).  At the risk of sounding like a sixteen year old, they were adorbs!

Sandi and her Family

I've been photographing Sandi, her husband Brian, and their kids for years and years and oh-my-gosh-look-how-little!, and I always enjoy seeing them. This year we met at Salem Willows Park (the site of this year's Fall Session Day)

One extra nice thing about Sandi is that she always reminds me and encourages me to shoot candid when I'm with her family. Sometimes I get so into portrait mode that I forget the strength that comes from being a fly on the wall, and the fact that I love shooting that way!

Ryan's Family

I love hearing from Ryan. She, her husband and three little ones are fun and kind and whenever I hear from her it means her family is growing. This time, Theo's arrived!

Fourth Of July

I wasn't very active with my camera over the 4th of July weekend. I can never completely turn it off, but as I age, I have learned to slow down and enjoy with my eyes and soul a bit too, rather than feeling a need to document at all times. But still, I did. Some with my big kid camera gear and some with my phone. Now that I've joined Instagram (@CydScottPhoto) I've been enjoying the inspiration I'm finding there from other photographers in addition to the challenge of shooting in square format, often with the phone, and sharing work slightly different than my everyday stuff.

Below is a combination of both! Scroll over the photos for more info.

Fall Sessions 2014 {Boston Portrait Photographer}

With the cute kid factor off the charts, beautiful weather and perfect fall leaves, this year's fall sessions were a great success! My clients were rock stars, taking on the crazy Salem traffic and even a rain delay in the middle of the day. Salem Willows Park was a new location for CSP and it served my current and new clients well, I thought!

Amy's Family {Boston Family Portraits}

The last time I saw Amy with her kids in my parents neighborhood where they live, Fiona was a baby and Aidan was a toddler not really talking much. My how time changes things! My favorite quote of the session (aside from the kids impersonating the intro to AFV "And now here's your host! Tommmmm Bergeroooooooonnnnn!") was when Fiona looked up at her mom and said "You look like a pirate princess!"

And P.S. I wanna find Fiona's white top in my size.

And the Most Coordinated Goes To...

As you can see from THIS SHOOT and THIS SHOOT, Sandi always coordinates her family in a great colorful way. No one's ever too matchy matchy, never appears to try too hard, and the color always pops. This year was no different! Need help getting your family dressed for your session? She's the one to consult!

Lena is Three Days Old!

I received an email from Lena's mom Ryan about a month ago, letting me know she had a baby on the way and wanted newborn shots. When she contacted me one day after Lena was born to schedule her session, I was impressed. Lena had arrived right on her due date! We exchanged info and I laughed to myself when she gave me her address. I emailed her back "Well, I'll be walking to your photo session because you're only a few houses away from me!" It's a small world!
